Sunny skies, warm temperatures, and 147 teams, with approximately 2400 kids, and who knows how many spectators, for a total of 294 games on fields in Winchester, Medford, and Woburn, and all taking place between 6:00PM Friday, and sunset on Sunday.
Thanks to all the residents of Winchester for putting up with a few extra visitors in town, and thanks also to everyone involved in making this year’s tournament a huge success, including Peterson’s Party Center, WB Stockwood Electric, and Austin Services. Special thanks to Tournament Coordinator Roseann Sauer, Referee Coordinator Michael Creane and his small army of referees, and especially to all of the volunteer members of the club serving as booth & concessions staff, Field Marshalls, and setup & teardown crews. Thanks also to Winchester DPW for cleanup assistance, Chris Nelson at WinRec & Brian Carroll, Winchester High School AD, for making the fields available, and to the Winchester Police & Fire Departments. Everyone pulling together makes this major event a success!
Lastly, thanks to the teams who come from as far away as Rhode Island & Connecticut to play in the tournament. This year there were 37 Winchester teams, and 110 teams from 29 other towns.
Proceeds from the tournament will benefit:
– U.S. Military Veterans charities
– Winchester Community Park Project
– WSC Youth Soccer Programs
In addition, this weekend was the official kick-off of the fundraising phase for WCP and there was huge interest, not only from Winchester residents but also from people from neighboring towns as well. We even received some initial donations for the project from people who left the tournament and went right home and clicked on the website, so the fundraising campaign is now officially underway!
Stay tuned for news & updates regarding progress on this exciting project, and for announcements regarding upcoming events!
