Today, the first strip of Greenfields MX Trimension was unrolled, however the weather then put a halt to additional installation work for the day. The remainder of this week looks great though, so by the weekend we’re expecting that the turf should be down, followed next week by the addition of the polymer coated infill, field lining, and goal setup! Considering that last year at this time WSC hadn’t even closed on the property (close date was May 7th) the project has come a long way, and the first of three fields at WCP will be ready for play in a matter of weeks! In addition to the completion of Connolly Field, the Heimlich LCC crew has completed the sub-layer and irrigation piping for the engineered natural grass field (naming rights still available), and will be adding the topsoil/sand layer and seeding the field, as well as the other grass areas of the park, in the coming weeks. Final design work is wrapping up for the field house design, and the foundation work is expected to begin shortly. The field house, when complete, will add the 3rd and final field to the park, a regulation 11v11 indoor turf field for year-round play. Final fundraising for the field house construction is underway NOW, so please consider making a donation to complete the field house by clicking on the DONATE NOW button to help. We’re also about to announce a “Buy a Tile” program, which will enable individuals, families, and teams to donate by buying an engraved granite tile. Tiles will be placed on a concrete flag pole base centrally located on the WCP site. The base is actually a former “rendering vat” base from the days of the JO Whitten Factory which is being re-purposed to recognize the history of the site.
Stay tuned for additional updates in the coming weeks. You can also follow WCP progress on our Facebook Page, and on Twitter @WinchCommPark
