Wow, it seems like just last week the season was beginning, and here we are at the end of the Fall soccer season, and the 10th Annual Winchester Veterans Day Tournament is upon us!
While ourteams have been competing in BAYS, and the Sandlot program has been going full tilt at Mullen Field for the past 10 weeks, the Winchester Community Park (WCP) committee has been quietly at work completing the initial due diligence on the Cross Street properties being considered for development as new fields and community green space.
To date the following significant steps are either underway or completed:
- Environmental analysis of the site to ensure its safety for use as playing fields for our children
- Discussions with Winchester town officials to confirm feasibility of the field project
- Receipt of proposals for site design & engineering to develop the property
- Formation of finance & fundraising committees to create the finance model for this important project
Efforts are underway to officially launch the fundraising campaign for WCP in conjunction with this year’s Veterans Day Tournament, and we’ll be kicking off the Project to convert this site into lit artificial turf & natural grass playing fields, a Fieldhouse for indoor play during the winter, and an expanded green space for the community along the Aberjona River.
WSC views this field project as a major step in the club’s 40+ year history as one of the leading youth soccer programs in the state. We also expect it to be of significant benefit to the town of Winchester, its residents, and consistent with the objectives outlined in the current Winchester Master Plan.
Please check this website often for updated information regarding progress on this important project, and feel free to contact me, or any other Winchester Soccer Club board member for additional information. Also, stay tuned for exciting announcements regarding WSC partnerships with local organizations such as Athletic Evolution to learn how you can contribute to the vision while at the same time benefitting from membership.
